The fibula is a bone located within the lateral aspect of the leg.

Fibula bone. It runs parallel to the tibia a larger bone that also forms the shin and attaches the ankle and knee joint. The fibula or calf bone is a leg bone on the lateral side of the tibia to which it is connected above and belowIt is the smaller of the two bones and in proportion to its length the most slender of all the long bones. The tibia is a larger bone on the inside and the fibula is a smaller bone on the outside.

A long bone is defined as one whose body is longer than it is wide. Proximal tibiofibular joint articulates with the lateral condyle of the tibia. It is the main weight-bearing bone of the two.

The tibia is much thicker than the fibula. The fibula and the tibia join. Its a fairly common injury in the NFL.

When these grafting procedures are performed people are able to function very normally despite missing a large part of the fibula bone. A lower-leg bone that extends from the knee to the outside of the ankle parallel to the tibia shinbone. The tibia or shinbone is the weight-bearing bone and is in the inside of the lower leg.

The fibula supports the tibia and. Like other long bones the fibula has a proximal end with a head and neck a shaft and a distal end. It is found next to another long bone known as the tibia.

It stabilizes the ankle and supports lower-leg muscles. While the fibula is an important bone it is possible to excise some of the bone for surgical procedures where bone is needed elsewhere in the body. It bears very little body weight.

The fibula is a slender cylindrical leg bone that is located on the posterior portion of the limb. The fibula only carries 17 percent of the bodys weight. Thats the critical question.

Its main function is to act as an attachment for muscles and not as a weight-bearer. A severe ankle sprain can cause a fibula fracture. It bears very little body weight.

It has three main articulations. The fibula provides lateral stability for the lower leg and acts as a tie rod to increase the range of motion for the ankle especially lateral and medial rotation of the foot. Fibula outer of two bones of the lower leg or hind limb presumably so named fibula is Latin for brooch because the inner bone the tibia and the fibula together resemble an ancient brooch or pin.

The fibula is the slender long bone that is attached next to and a little below the tibia shinbone. In humans the head of the fibula is joined to the head of the tibia by ligaments and does not form part of the knee.
